Port-au-Prince, October 28, 2025 — As Hurricane Melissa continues to unleash heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding across the Caribbean, House of Hope 4 Children (HOH4C) has activated its emergency response network and deployed 228 trained volunteers throughout Southern Haiti, particularly in the South and Grand’Anse departments.

Rapid Response to an Unfolding Crisis
Since October 25, 2025, HOH4C teams have been operating in coordination with local authorities and partner organizations to reach families most at risk. Volunteers are currently assessing urgent needs in shelters, remote rural communities, and coastal zones affected by severe weather conditions.
“Our mission is to stand with communities when they are most vulnerable,” said Dr. Lucna Henrisme, President of HOH4C. “Our volunteers are not only distributing relief information but also collecting critical field data that helps improve coordination and save lives.”

Cholera and Flooding Risks
The situation remains critical as cholera persists in several affected areas. The combination of flooding, damaged sanitation systems, and limited access to clean water heightens the risk of disease outbreaks.HOH4C teams are conducting awareness campaigns on hygiene and cholera prevention, distributing essential hygiene materials, and relaying lifesaving health messages through local radio and community leaders.
Red Alert in Southern Haiti
According to the National System for Disaster Risk Management (SNGRD), the departments of South, Grand’Anse, Nippes, and West remain under Red Alert. In Les Cayes, flooding has submerged several streets, disrupted transportation, and forced school closures, while coastal communities like Tiburon have reported significant agricultural losses.

Staying Connected and Supporting the Mission
HOH4C’s field coordination unit continues to process real-time data and share verified updates every 24 hours to ensure transparency and effective humanitarian action.
