Every Child and Every Family Deserves Protection

A Statement from House of Hope 4 Children (HOH4C)Port-au-Prince, Haiti — August 29, 2026

According to information released by UNICEF, six children and seven women who had been abducted in Kenscoff were freed after several days in captivity. The children included three under the age of two, one seven-year-old child, and two adolescent girls. Their release brings relief and renewed hope to their families and communities.

However, this moment of relief must not cause us to overlook the continuing suffering of children throughout Haiti. No child should live in fear of being kidnapped, injured, separated from family, forced to flee home, or deprived of education and healthcare. No family should have to wonder whether its children will return home safely.

Around the world, an estimated one in five children lives in or is fleeing a conflict-affected area. Children are being killed, injured, abducted, displaced, and abused at an alarming rate. These grave violations of their rights cannot continue.

Violence against children is never acceptable. Children are not combatants, bargaining tools, or targets. They are human beings with rights, dreams, dignity, and futures that must be protected.

HOH4C calls on all armed groups to immediately end every form of violence against children and families. Any child still being held must be released safely and unconditionally. Schools, hospitals, homes, places of worship, and humanitarian spaces must remain protected and accessible.

We also call upon Haitian authorities, humanitarian organizations, community leaders, healthcare professionals, educators, and international partners to strengthen their collective response. Protecting children requires more than reacting after an attack. It requires prevention, accountability, safe communities, effective protection services, and sustained assistance for affected families.

Children who experience violence may need medical care, psychological support, continued education, family reunification, and long-term assistance. Their identities, privacy, and dignity must be protected throughout the recovery process. Families must also receive the support they need to rebuild their lives safely and with dignity.

Standing with children means listening to them, defending their rights, supporting their families, and creating conditions in which they can learn, heal, and grow without fear. It also means refusing to accept violence as a normal part of their lives.

HOH4C remains committed to standing beside Haiti’s children and families. We encourage communities to protect vulnerable children, report threats responsibly, support affected families, and work together to build safer environments.

Every child deserves to grow up in safety, surrounded by a family and community able to protect, support, and care for them.

Children are not targets. Their suffering must never be normalized. They deserve peace, protection, dignity, and a future.

Every child matters. Every family deserves safety. Protecting children is a shared responsibility and silence must never be our response when their lives and futures are at risk.
