Responding to the Impact of Hurricane Melissa
Port-au-Prince, October 30, 2025
As Hurricane Melissa leaves behind widespread devastation across the Caribbean, House of Hope 4 Children (HOH4C) continues its humanitarian mission in Southern Haiti, bringing assistance, awareness, and hope to communities most affected by the storm.

Thousands of Families in Need
In coordination with local authorities and community leaders, HOH4C field agents and volunteers have identified 6,170 families including 8,205 children under five years old affected by Hurricane Melissa in the South and Grand’Anse departments. These numbers continue to rise as our teams reach remote and hard-to-access areas still facing flooding, landslides, and severe infrastructure damage.
Many families have lost their homes and livelihoods, and thousands remain in temporary shelters without access to clean water, food, medical care, or basic hygiene supplies.
Our Field Teams at Work
Since October 25, 2025, 228 HOH4C volunteers have been mobilized across 13 communes, conducting:
Community sensitization on hurricane preparedness and cholera prevention;
Rapid field assessments to document humanitarian needs;
Support to temporary shelters with hygiene items, mattresses, and food supplies;
Coordination with local health and protection clusters to share real-time data and prioritize urgent interventions.
Despite logistical challenges damaged roads, power outages, and heavy rains HOH4C remains committed to staying on the ground and ensuring that help reaches even the most isolated families.
The Situation Remains Critical
While national alerts are being lifted, the humanitarian reality persists. The risks of cholera outbreaks, malnutrition, and psychological distress are rising in several affected communes, particularly Dame-Marie, Corail, Pestel, Jérémie, Les Cayes, and Port-Salut. Our data collection and daily situation reports help guide partners and donors to target support where it is most needed.
